New Construction
When Do You Rough In Plumbing for a New Home?
New construction plumbing happens in two main phases — rough-in and finish. Rough-in comes after framing but before insulation and drywall. Finish happens near the end of the build once the home is closed in. For most custom homes, we're on-site twice and coordinate inspections both times so your timeline doesn't stall.
-
Underground / Under-Slab Work
Before the slab is poured, we install underground drain, waste, and vent lines and stub out supply locations. This is the work that can't be undone — it has to be right the first time.
-
Rough-in Plumbing
Once framing is up, we run all supply and drain lines through walls and floors to each fixture location. The rough-in is inspected before drywall closes up — we make sure our work is ready to pass when that happens.
-
Finish Trim-Out
Near the end of the build, we install all fixtures — toilets, faucets, sinks, showers, water heater, valves, and appliance hookups. Trim-out is the final plumbing inspection before certificate of occupancy.
Don't Skip the Water Softener Loop!
Tri-Cities water is hard. Installing a water softener loop during rough-in costs a fraction of what it costs to retrofit later. We recommend it on every new build we work on in Kennewick, Pasco, and Richland — and we can install a full softener at the same time if you're ready for it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Need a Plumbing Subcontractor or Remodel Plumber?
These are the questions we answer every day for Tri-Cities homeowners and general contractors planning new builds and remodels.
Do I need a plumber for a bathroom remodel?
Any remodel that involves moving, replacing, or adding plumbing lines requires a licensed plumber. That includes relocating a toilet, adding a shower, moving a sink, or running new supply lines behind the wall. You can handle cosmetic work like a new faucet yourself in most cases, but anything involving pipes or drain lines should be permitted and done by a licensed plumber.
We work directly with homeowners on remodels — you don't need a GC to call us. Give us a description of what you're planning and we'll tell you what the plumbing scope will look like.
Can a plumber move pipes during a remodel?
Yes. Moving pipes is one of the most common things we do on remodel jobs — especially when walls are coming down or a bathroom layout is changing. Supply lines are relatively straightforward to relocate. Drain lines are more involved because they have to maintain the right slope to work properly. We'll assess what your project requires and give you an honest picture of the scope before anything is opened up.
How much does plumbing cost in a bathroom remodel?
It depends on the scope. A straightforward swap — same fixture locations, new fixtures installed — is a few hours of labor. A full gut remodel with a layout change, new shower rough-in, and all new supply and drain work is a significantly larger job. We give you an estimate based on the actual work involved, not a flat quote pulled from thin air.
Call us with the details of your project and we'll give you a realistic range before you commit to anything.
Do you work with general contractors on new builds?
Yes — GC relationships are a core part of what we do on new construction. We're used to working within a build schedule, coordinating with other trades, and showing up when we say we will. If you're a GC looking for a reliable plumbing sub in the Tri-Cities, give us a call.

Real Reviews from Real Neighbors
Don't take our word for it — here's what Tri-Cities homeowners and businesses are saying on Google.
Thank you Columbia Basin Plumbing for the excellent service. We had a leak under our kitchen sink that we just couldn't locate. You were able to get out next day and take care of the problem.
Travis quickly found and fixed our water leak. But even more impressive was him crawling on his belly in a very narrow crawl space to get to the leak. We are very thankful and happy for the services at Columbia Basin Plumbing.
I had a valve on my hot water tank that needed attention in my Pasco rental. I’ve worked with Columbia Basin in the past through a previous place of employment. They are a great referral partner! Megan, the owner, was prompt with getting someone scheduled and out to the house. She’s very nice to speak with and I think Lee resolved my problem for my renters! Thanks Megan & Lee!
We love this family business! They came to our rescue at our business when we needed them the most. Excellent customer service, fair pricing, honesty and integrity. Highly recommended!
Very knowledgeable staff! Went above and beyond my expectations of customer service and experienced staff. Would recommend them to all my friends and family!
I highly recommend Columbia basin plumbing. Had an emergency after a pipe burst after a cold night. They were able to schedule me same day and fixed the issue with ease. Competitive prices had me charged hundreds less than I was expecting so I am especially grateful for that. Tyler was my laborer, good dude very good customer service explained and broke everything down easily for me to understand. I will definitely be calling them back for any plumbing issues in the future
Had them out for a dishwasher install. Went very smoothly, plumber showed up on time and did very clean work. I was able to get scheduled next day. Very happy and highly recommended.
They were able to come check out our hot water heater and replace it within 24 hours of us calling them, very responsive and reasonably priced! Would absolutely recommend!

This is the second time we've used Columbia Basin Plumbing and both times we've had excellent service. The first was to install new faucets throughout the house, a garbage disposal, and the second time was to install a new hot water tank. The price has always been reasonable. The guys that do the work have always been extremely professional. They have my business for life.
They responded and fixed my problem quickly, and for a great price!
I was dreading calling a plumber as I have never had to. Fast, friendly, excellent work at a price less than I had anticipated.
So grateful for Columbia Basin Plumbing. The office staff was so kind and understanding and great at communicating and getting our repair scheduled on a Friday afternoon. The plumber who came out was friendly and had us fixed up in no time along with some great advice for future repairs/projects.
I can't begin to say how impressed I am with Columbia Basin Plumbing! From the first second on the phone with Megan, all the way through finishing the job, they were courteous, knowledgeable, professional, reasonable, and do great work. They handled an entire replumb for us on an older manufactured home in a timely manner at a fair price. We are 100% satisfied and will use them in the future!
I gave them 5 stars even though there was a time hang up which is understandable. The gentlemen that came out was very professional and polite. He answered any questions I had and explained what needed to be done. They do charge one hour labor minimum which is typical but they would have been done in 20 mins... So the time hang up was the service man ran out of access panels and was gone for almost an hour running around town locating one to buy. This wasn't that big of a deal with me since I had no plans, but should be addressed in the review as it could be an issue if someone was on a time restraint. Their pricing I believe is fair they where less than half the amount Mr. Rooter wanted to charge. Overall, great experience.
Absolutely Amazing, Hero's I'd say, I needed my water heater installed and had called 20 other places before reaching them, by far the best customer service I've ever had, they squeezed me in the same day and got the job done! Would call them again if I ever need services. Thanks again to the Columbia Basin Plumbing Team.
I cant say enough good things anout them. They really care. They actually went out of their way to not only do a good job for a fair price but helped me deal with the results of a nightmare plumber who left me in a bad pinch. They moved their schedule around and made it happen. Theyre not just a great company... theyre genuinely caring... nice people.
Tyler was professional and faced with a very complicated issue. He kept on in very trying conditions until the situation was solved. Thank you!
Awesome company! Helped me over the phone no charge until we felt we found the problem! Thanks Jason!
I have used Columbia Basin Plumbing for multiple project big and small, every single time the work is completed on time and within budget. They are very knowledgeable and professional, I would highly recommend them for all your plumbing needs.
I can not give Columbia Basin Plumbing a good enough review! We had our newest grandson coming to visit our home for the first time and our water heater went out the night before. Both my wife and I were in a panic! We called Columbia Basin Plumbing and were connected to Jason. He assured us he would have everything taken care of for us first thing in the morning. Jason came out to our house at 8:00 the next morning, (a Sunday on top of all of this,) diagnosed, changed out, cleaned up, and left in under two hours! Not only was the customer service fantastic, the price was less than half what we expected. I wholeheartedly recommend Jason and his whole team at Columbia Basin Plumbing for whatever plumbing needs you have! We are very thankful to see there are still those contractors out there willing to sacrifice their personal time to make sure their customers needs are taken care of.
They were able to send somebody out the same day we called. The plumber, Tyler, was on time, fixed my issue, and was polite and courteous. The pricing was clear and fair. I would recommend them and will use this company for future issues.
Spoke to Donna and she was super attentive to my situation and scheduled an appointment for the following day. Next day Jeremiah arrived on time and went right to work figuring out the toilet drain back problem. He was excellent and worked fast and was extremely knowledgeable about what was being done. For a bad situation it was a pleasure having Jeremiah figure it all out and great attitude. Thank you Columbia Basin Plumbing.
Excellent work at a fair price from honest, helpful, and friendly staff. Never trust a 1 star review of this company. Any future plumbing work will start with a call to these guys
Excellent and fast service. They were at the house within an hour of calling to replace an expansion tank that had gone bad and flooded our garage. I would definitely recommend this company. The techs name was Russ. He worked quickly and was very courteous.

Amazing customer service. A plumber you can trust! I highly recommend them. Their prices are very affordable.
Did a great job. Was there when I need someone fast. Kitchen drain plugged, was very fast and a very nice guy. Very affordable. Cleaned up the mess and was like I hadn't even had a problem with my drain.
Megan and Jason are by far the most professional and efficient business owners I've met in a long time. Each time we have called them to our house Jason has been there within the day or two. If somthing comes up Megan is quick to stay in touch as to when they will be out. I completely trust the work they do as well as their word and that says a lot. If your looking for honest, proficient, affordable work. These guys put they're whole hearts into what they do. Look no further!!! Thanks for everything, Maraiah and Justin
My husband and I were in the middle of moving and had our shower head break off in the wall and we just didn't have time to fix it our selves... Everyone else my husband called couldn't be to our old house to do the repairs for a few days and we just couldn't wait that long... We called Columbia Basin Plumbing and they were able to be out to the house within a few hours and had it fixed in less then an hour... Very friendly and professional!! And his rates were very reasonable!! They will be our first and only call of we ever need someone again!!
Amazing costumer service!!! Saved us from flooding our neighbors and fixed or irrigation pipe and stayed for a while to make sure everything was ok! Thank you again Jason!
